All Glass Extension

Private Client | Putney, London

This huge Victorian semi detached house had spectacular rooms - and a tiny kitchen - on the ground floor, and an usable warren of rooms in a dark basement, with neither properly connected to the big south facing garden. It also came with planning consent by Somerjay Low Tallis for a modernist glass box extension which our client asked us to build.

Lots of glass in a steel frame may look spectacular, but is hard to reconcile with today’s drive for low energy. We worked hard to conceal lots of insulation to meet current regulations whilst keeping the glazed look. The double height extra space turns the basement into a light bright family kitchen dining room with big doors to a terrace for outdoor living.

With more bathrooms and extensive repairs this is now an exceptional family home.
